About the Workshop
Thanks to the
green revolution Indian agriculture has been able to break out
of the subsistence syndrome and move to self-sufficiency in food
production and export of food grains. The focus of green
revolution was on production enhancement technology development
and transfer. However, we have not made any concerted efforts
to link agricultural system with industry to move the farmers up
the value chain system. The ongoing reforms and WTO regime have
opened up new vistas before Indian agriculture to develop global
competitiveness. Given the inherent strengths of Indian
agriculture, we have a great opportunity to develop a vibrant
agri-business industry. The need of the hour is to interface
the technology developed by various agri-based research and
development organizations including Universities with potential
entrepreneurs. Professionals in agriculture and allied
disciplines are to be motivated to own and manage agri-business
enterprises leveraging the commercially viable technologies
lying dominant with various research laboratories across the
country for the production of value added products.
The proposed
workshop will set the stage for a fruitful showcasing of
technologies developed by the research organizations to the
potential entrepreneurs and Agri-business institutions.
